Default 1990 FLHTC Carb problem

Folks I"m at a loss here.
My friends 90 flhtc carb is giving me a fit. It seems that the carb is slipping out of the intake.

this has been happening since his he hit a deer back in march...The bike layed down on left side...saw no damage to carb or air cleaner.

We have changed the Carb seal...was badly cracked
monday we changd the intake seals....seemed to be original to bike..were rather hard..

rode the bike all week with no problems.. then saturday we rode out and put about 100 good miles on the bike.
stopped for a bit and on restart bike would not idle again..

reset the carb back into the intake and all was good again....

can't figure out what is causing this problem

Doesn't the air cleaner assembly bolt to the heads holding the carb in place?

Griz

If it has the plastic air cleaner box with the inserted brass threads, then they come loose and this sorta thing happens.

Backing plate attaches to carb with bolts, and backing plate also attaches to cylinder head by way of cylinder head mounting bolts. Like Spanners mentioned, something is amiss. There is no way it can pop off if everything is properly attached. Yes, the carb to manifold seal can get old and leak, but that seal is not designed to hold the carb on. That is the job for the air cleaner backing plate.

Can you post a pic of the setup?
