To Dano523,
I don't want to create a **** storm with this thread, but you are quite the *** Head ! You & all like minded Key Board Mechanics are quite full of your self . . ." I would bla bla bla bla" & "if it were mine" bla bla bla bla & "did you" bla bla bla bla."don't forget to" bla bla bla bla . . .

The whole Point of this thread is to show case my Rescue of an original paint Harley-Davidson that has survived 38 years with just a little over 7 thousand miles on the clock !

Keep posting! I like what you did and basically did the same thing with my 1994 FXDS.

Removing the AC old insert was a challenge. Did not want to damage the chrome. I used dental floss and when that failed I then used braided fishing line to cut the adhesive on the old one and that was not a fun job.

Then to clean up the residue adhesive, mineral spirits took forever. I think I used lacquer thinner and careful elbow grease to remove the old adhesive. It took so much time and was a pain finding a "dyna low rider convertible" insert, that I don't want use the newly refurbished air cleaner cover.

Still using my back up cover for everyday riding to avoid getting scratches, dent, and dings in the soft aluminum AC insert. I found "Meguiar's Scratch X" does a good job with the paint. Not a very aggressive polish but you get results and it seems to nourish the paint. I use it once a year with no ill effects. Then a couple coats of wax. Works great on the frame paint also. Very safe to use.

I like following along. Keep up the good work!

The chrome is pretty tough on the air cleaner, it’s a chore getting the goo off that’s for sure! I used goo off and alcohol, a razor blade and soft scrapers, and did it outside cause it’s a smelly process also.
then washed it a few times, alcohol again marked the alignment on backside with painters tape, and then used heat gun to set the glue.
