Keep in mind, how does it run pulling thru the gears when it's fully warm is what's important . That 48 and 50, are they for the pump?

Forog to mention that it pulls quite good through all gears. No hesitation, no sputter nothing. Just that cough when snapping...

I just began to have a problem with the bike stuttering in 5th gear above 80 mph as if starving for gas. Also, neutral light flickers in the 5th gear. But, I guess that's a different issue, not connected to the manifold and jets?

Because they are way too rich. You're compensating for the problem rather than solving it.

Got it. Thank you.

However, with this new high flow air filter and open pipes, i noticed that the engine runs cooler and I get no decel pop or anything like that

A richer mixture should run cooler, but that doesn't mean it's tuned correctly. What do your spark plugs look like? Personally, I'd change those manifold seals to eliminate a source of vacuum leak, then properly tune the carb. Most everyone uses a 45 pilot jet so I'd trust that.

Yes, I found a 50 size jet on ebay. https://www.ebay.com/itm/134106769574

If it's genuine HD, the jet is too big, a chinese knock off, who knows what jets it will need..

Hello everyone. Just wanted to give you an update on the sputter and cough situation.

The mechanic changed the intake seals. The old ones were completely ruined - dried up, cracked and falling apart. Immediately the sputter/cough situation improved. It's almost gone. It did cough/backfire once or twice today. I'd like to completely eliminate it. Here is the current set up with the bike. Maybe something is not right in the setup?

1. I have the freeflow TC Bros filter installed. Mechanic said this could also be a problem, as the carb gets too much air. Maybe adding a K&N foam filter could help? Or just going to the regular OEM filter altogether?

2. We currently have a 48 slow jet installed (Chinese knockoff). For some reason the mechanic didn't go back to 45 even though I asked him.

3. On one of the startups I noticed black smoke coming out of the pipes for one second. Does this mean its very rich?

Thank you

In my expirence coughing through carb coud be 2 things , lean or rich carb & or ignition timing to advanced,

good that you replaced the compliance fittings next I would put in a set of new plugs, be sure you get the right ones for electronic ignition & I would also replace the plug kabels if they are old. Also what do your plugs look like after the compliance fittings change ?

Here's what my compliance fittings looked like , my front cylinder was not firing right
My new to me evo Wide Glide would not run on both cylenders, replaced compliance fitting & all is well . . .

Thanks.
I changed these gaskets/manifold seals. I assume it's not the same as compliance fittings?

I will check the current plugs.

I have Harley OEM 5R6A plugs installed. Will get the same or from Drag Specialties. Also planning to get new plug wires.

I haven't gotten to the ignition timing. I guess that would be down on my list as well. But, I don't have the tech knowledge for that, and there is almost no qualified technician to do that.
