After reading about bikes lost due to fire and theft I'd like to get the word out that just adding comprehensive insurance without adding collision to a basic liability insurance policy is a cost friendly way to insure our bikes. Comprehensive Insurance adds about $40 year per bike to my policy
Comprehensive insurance, also known as "other than collision" coverage, protects your vehicle from damage that isn't caused by a collision with another vehicle or object. It can cover a variety of incidents, including:
Theft: Theft of the entire vehicle or parts of it
Glass damage: Broken or cracked windshields
Fire: Damage from fire or explosions
Falling objects: Damage from falling trees, limbs, or other objects
Natural disasters: Damage from floods, hurricanes, tornadoes, lightning, and earthquakes
Accidents with animals: Damage from hitting a deer or other animal
Vandalism: Damage from vandalism or civil disobedience, like riots
Storm damage: Damage from hail, wind, or other storms
$40 a year, or a total loss. Comp is cheap, and they'll write a check, generally.
Plus it covers animal strikes, in deer and bear country that's worthwhile.
Of course depends on the bikes value to begin with. Also whether you include the customized bits as well.
As cheap or not as it is here in New York, I still have full collision with fire and comp on a stated value to make sure I don't get ripped off by the insurance companies..
Comprehensive will not replace full value of our Evos. The cost to repair an Evo today will out weigh the market value of the bike so to not have collision would be stupid..

Don't know what you pay but with owning 6 bikes, if I don't pay for collision on 6 of them in 10 years I've made enough to buy another..
Do either of you carry uninsured/under insured motorist on the policy's
WP
No I don't.. I never have on any of my vehicles. Do you think it's something I should look into because I know there's a portion of people that are way underinsured or not even insured.. There is a lot of crap out there.....
Yes. I have uninsured motorist for 15,000/30,000. $28 a year. My comprehensive only $10/yr with $500 deductible. Collision $75/yr with $500 deductible.
