Got some new Progressive 422 shocks to install. Tried heat and beating a wrench with a hammer and it's a no go, so I've ordered a 3/4" torque adapter to get the job done but why in the world would engineers design these bolts where the frame rails are in the way? Stupid design! Ok, I'm done venting.....for now

Mines a 99 and doesn't have a 5/16's nut on it. There's a 3/4 bolt head on all 4 sides

What do you mean when you say the frame rails are in the way?
Can you post a pic of the problem?

Oops, yeah it's a Softail. I should have specified in my original post. I've got the tools ordered to do the job. While we wait, I'll be hitting it with penatrating oil.

I don't have a lift table with removable section, so I have to support the frame on the ground and use a 3/4" wrench that I cut in half and a hammer.. Seems to work ok..

I lifted mine on the table, put a scissor jack where it would clear. Took my short open wrench.. I think it’s like 11/16, maybe it was 3/4 but I think it was 11/16, then just kept tapping it with the hammer. It’s a long monotonous boring task. I can’t tell you the 422 rap made a big difference…

Heres a pic from a Google search. Although those front bolts appear to have plenty of access, they are just below the frame rail, so you dont have a straight shot with a socket and extension.
