More likely the aftermarket pipes are a clunky fit. And yes your best compromise is to remove the exhaust, loosen the floorboard just a bit, install new exhaust gaskets
And tweak and slowly tighten with as much clearance as possible. In all compromises however good exhaust seal is a must.. after that your down to files, grinders and persuasion.
Cloud use a 50 to 80 thou thick set of washers between the floorboard brackets and the frame.

Thanks - I think these pipes are oem, its a low owner/ low miles bike with good records. It did have the SE slip ons (Receipted from new) but other than that I dont think these have ever been off .
I agree with Rains2much. Space out the floorboard brackets. If you start messing around with the exhaust you open up a can of worms. Anything from broken exhaust studs in the cylinder heads to leaks.
Cheers for th input guys - the OCD was indeed getting the better of me. What didnt help way eyesight at almost 66 isnt what it was.
I went to check out the floorboard bracket for options and noticed on closer inspection the heat shield had a cut out, to accommodate the board I assume,.
