And king of funny, since first one for sale in ebay, has the red injectors, and the price for it, its worth the money if you just need the red higher outflow injectors to start with.
As for if your really mod'g the motor for more power (big bore kit, and high rev cam like the Ev27), then need the higher flow M&M type manifold that was offer by S&S, as well as there replacement ECM that came with free tuning software as well. Most tuners will not have the software to tune the MM ecm, and the stock MM manifold does not have the needed flow for big bore kit, with cam that your increasing the TPM redline (short off grinding the center runner out of the oem manifold, where you pick up slight more high rmps flow, but your going to give up a bit on lower rpms with less than clean flow with center divider wall removed, as well as running lean in some parts of the rpm curb as well).
Hence reason that the systems/manifolds are on the market in the first place, since guys modded the motors for more horsepower, ran into the hurdles that the stock MM systems could not over come, and found that all that is needed is carb that can keep up with the motor demands; a lot cheap in the end instead.
For the most part, between after market and HD, can still get all the MM parts/sensors, and isntead of going HD if your cam'g with screaming eagle high flow air filter/ust need more fuel flow with red injectors so stock tune still works fine, there are after market injectors that flow just like the red injectors as well.
Hence problem is more of knowing how to work with the MM system to get it set correctly, that seems to be the lost art for great deal isntead.
Hence short of the temp sensor in the front head that loves to go south every few years/needs to be replaced when is leaves the engine in cold start mode, the system requires a lot less maintenance, than say have to rebuild a carb every few years instead.
As for the Dephi FI system, with it being closed loop, will agree that better system itself, short of the singe accordion plastic flex fuel line hose in the tank that loves to get pin hole leaks, or the entire plastic pressure regulator that loves to crack tabs. itself apart (replace with billet one, and replace plastic line with ethnal proof rubber one), that does not allow injectors/rail is not getting any fuel pressure instead.
Should be a few of them for sale due to M&M owners trying to recover money for a carb change. The Italian spray isn't a real bad system but a prehistoric drip carb runs way better on a Evo from experience running the same 89" Evo. Honestly never had any trouble out of my M&M but just runs out of fuel delivery when jumping up the ponies, all the aftermarket EFI power garbage only gains speed from selling a kidney to purchase it by promoting less total riding weight and still sounds like a Honda @ idle.
Have a modded red injector M&M intake setting on the shelf for the last 18-20 years, don't know why but it's there.
Keep converting those Fuel Injected EVOs to carbs.
I'm might need a cheap source for parts one of these days. ha ha
Carl
Yeah your point is well made, those M&M parts may become rare in the future with extinct prices or throw away prices, time will tell. I keep hoping my Shovel FLT takes the same path as the discarded Plymouth Super Bird but will still be worth $3500 when I die LOL.
