Problem not solved. Had everything put back together and when we tried to start it the starter ran and did not stop. Positive battery bolt glowed this time. Nothing else seemed hot and it did not smoke. We didn't end up having a lot of time to try things but my next steps are.

- Check wiring in the handlebar switch and button. Not sure why I haven't done this yet. Seems like the solenoid is staying open if that's the right term. Maybe something in there is sticking or touching.
- Going to try the other "new" solenoid. If that doesn't work I'll get a rebuild kit.
- My friend also suggested looking at a push button on the solenoid but I would rather not. Something is wrong somewhere. I would prefer to find and fix it instead of bypassing the issue. Not sure this would fix the run away starter anyway..?
- If all else fails I know a couple of guys that work on bikes on the side. Last resort I'll find a shop.

I don't recall whether you got into the primary. Long time ago, I put the run-on spring in the wrong place and it did what yours is doing now.

The spring 12 goes on the otter side of the fork, away from the plunger.

I was in the primary a couple of years ago and it has run/started fine since then. I did open it up last week to ensure nothing looked damaged or bound up. This is an old picture from the last time I was in there but this is how it sits. I believe this is correct..?

Had a few min last night to mess with it. Swapped in the first solenoid I bought.
- Solenoid #1 just clicked and starter engaged but starter did not spin. Same as the first time I tried it. Opened it up. Looked like it had water inside. Contact points were green and corroded. The inside was pretty nasty. This solenoid never made it out of my garage so that is how it arrived. Looked like they shipped it in a bucket of water. I cleaned the contact points and tired to put it back together but the switch bolt threads were boogered up and it broke loose and started spinning. Wasn't going to run this one anyway just wanted to see if clean contact points would make the starter spin.

- Solenoid #2 was the one that stuck open. I opened it up. Looked good. Nice and clean. There were some odd marks on the bolts ends and plate. I'm sure those aren't the correct terms. Looks like it may have spot welded itself open. I put it back together and stuck it back in the bike but ran out of time. Should be able to connect wires and test it tonight.

- I'm starting to think maybe I got two bad Accel solenoids. Found a cheap solenoid with good reviews on Amazon. Cheaper than a rebuild kit for the Accel I have. Should have that next week.

Problem Solved.

2 bad Accell solenoids. The $35 Amazon special worked.

The one that had corrosion.

The one that was sticking open
