I am going to run into town and get a test gauge from harbor freight... maybe just a bad sender. Damn bike is leaking oil now, will have to investigate that.

anyone happen to know the low pressure cutoff for this bike? Or, which would make sense?

summit has vdo brand:

Pressure Sender 0-150 Psi 1/8"-27 Thread 11.4 Psi Warning
Pressure Sender 0-150 Psi 1/8"-27 Thread 7.0 Psi Warning

2hr trip to town, $30 for a oil pressure test kit...

25psi at idle, sending unit it is. I think the pool of oil on the floor may have actually came out of the sender port while I had it out, there was a wet stream coming from that hole.

that isn't too bad... found this one $22 from vdo, same price at summit racing:
230-504 - VDO Pressure Switch 4PSI - 230-504 - VDO - Gauges VDO from Vehicle Controls

I will call the dealer though, $85 isn't terrible for OEM parts.

$87 oem sensor not the solution, behavior is same. Still oil pressure guage pegged out until i ground that wire then drops to 0. Light flickers comes on with part throttle then off with little more. Ground oil light wire get bright red light, that all seems good. Test guage holds low 20s at idle goes up into low 30s with throttle up to 4k rpm. Back to wiring? Really strange behavior but pressure is still good per HF test guage.

Yup, wires. Behind pipes. Explains why happened after it got hot, plastic melted and yellow wire for light grounded on pipe. Guess i have a spare sender unit at least now. Gauge must be bad since green wire not affected.
