Yes, I have read that about those years and that they are preferred, and totally get it.
Precisely same kind of thing with Jaguar V12s...fwiw.

Yet, a deal is a deal. I came across one, 1990, pristine.
So......

I had a 1992 FLHTUC which served me well ... Over 50,000 miles ... Early on I had to put base gaskets in it ... Seepage ... No more problems

A quick add for those searching or came across this thread and have not yet found this one below.

Good info.

But, yeah, TC is big NOPE for me.

The lack of rebuild-ability.
Yeah, nope.

The crankshaft runout problems too.
I realize I appear like one who has suddenly awoken from a coma after 25years, but...it gets to me.
fwiw

And yes, I will probably just stick with my shovel and not be lazy or tempted by eye candy anymore (Laugh).

Appreciate the info.
Excuse me, cannot find how to send a PM.

Anything that would put you off a 1990 MY?

Appreciate your thoughts.
Thanks

Default Only up to 2003 for the TC motor

Up until 2003 the TC had a rebuildable bottom end with a very tight runout like the Evo platform. Those motors can be upgraded to gear drive cams and that eliminates that the tensioner problem. Also a little headwork and a bump to 95" makes for a very good time and very dependable.

I'll just stick with my two Evo scoots and keep moving.

Thanks for the reply chap, kind words on this greed hate filled planet are always appreciated, people tend to ignore the oold/disabled/end of life/lost etc generations i have found.

by "misting",,a common attribute of old brit bikes,i mean those light undefined areas of apparent oil leaks, those "hints" that something is trying to escape.

in my case my evo has been misting here n there for some 20+ years now n like a btit just needs an oily rag now n again.

atb,
gregory.

Good luck finding a 35 year old bike that hasn’t been modded.
As you know, HD guys tend to tinker, and a bike that old will likely have gone through 2-3 or more owners.
That’s not to say they’re not out there, so if you do find a decent bike, it may already have some of the inherent issues addressed.

I got lucky with my 95 Dyna. The PO kept it very close to original, only adding a stage 1 with V&H pipes. It only had 14000 miles on it when I bought it.

My 1998 FLHTCUI with a Champion trike kit needs a base gasket overhaul.
Was planning to do it myself this spring, but new health/age issues permanently will not allow me to sit/stand/squat for more than a few minutes.

So I guess it will sit and rot as I can't afford the $ it would take for an indie to do it.
I will miss riding.

It's a big state after all. I'm in SW Houston area and while currently a little preoccupied, if you are close we can definitely take a look and see what she looks like.
