Default 1995 Springer rear tire

Stock rear tire size on my 1995 Bad Boy Springer is mt90/16. I'd like to try 150 80 16.

Could I do it with only a rear sprocket spacer or would I need other stuff?

Thanks guys.

I think your rim width will be to small for that tire, I think a 150 80 would require at least a 5" rim, and stock rim is 3.5", largest I would go would be a 140 90, that would fit your rim, but don't know if it would fit the bike, tire is taller/fatter so there could be clearance issues.

A fatter tire won't handle as well. Somethings are better left alone.

But...Fat Tires are soooo Cool lookin... I guess Large Diameter front ones Also!!!
I wonder how chain/belt alignment will deal with simply spacing the rear to clear the tire????

I'd like to find a size slightly wider than the stock 130/90 but not any taller if such a size exist. I have the rear lowered.

What I see online is 3.5 is the recommend width for 150/80/16

I just don't know how easy it is to setup the sprocket spacer.

It was a nightmare.. I have a 93 FXSTS and now run a 16 x 3.5 with a 150 Avon tire. I had to space everything.. I think you could do a 140 with just spacing the belt pulley. The 150 was wide enough I was spacing the brake side to make sure the caliper was centered with the rotor. I went chain… hope the best for you and your journey

Sounds like a lot of effort for little, if any gain.

140 will fit with just spacing the pulley. 150 is a much bigger task.

When I put a 150 on my 1997 Dyna (I know not a Softail) I used a kit HD made 20 years ago that provided a thinner belt and an offset pulley. I still had to "shave" off everything under the fender to not rub. The tire will fit on your wheel and it will fit under the fender, the belt is the issue. I remember guys running the newer 1-1/8" belt, not sure what else they had to do to make it work.

For me it was worth it, 150 looks great tucked up under the fender with just a hair width of space. Mine never rubbed even two up, but again all the bolts etc had to go away. Good luck.

Yep… If I had to do again I’d go 140 and leave it.

Knowledgable guys chimed in on that thread and said it was an easy no brainer to go 150.. I have no clue if different years make it different solutions… or if for some odd reason the 1 1/8 belt defies physics and is narrower than a chain.. but it was not at all like they experienced.. like everything was outta wack.

Iwas dealing with aftermarket aluminum hub, aftermarket aluminum rim, aftermarket solid motor sprocket, aftermarket clutch, aftermarket sprockets/chain, aftermarket motor & transmission. It lined up perfect with the frame and the inner and outter drives are perfect, the rear tire is lined up perfect with the frame, swingarm and fender but everything is one off machined with shims and spacers everywhere.
