Default Thread Sealant Quick Question

About to put on the rear brake line including the fitting the stoplamp switch screws into. I do not trust this chrome fitting and stoplamp switch to not leak. I know I can put a small amount of tape on it, but I also have the Permatex Thread Sealant with PTFE. Seems it should work also. What says the forum? Tape (I will get the oil resistant tape and not use teflon) or the sealant?

Either is fine for me.. Teflon tape is fine. It's fine for fuel, oil, brake fluid.

I prefer paste, because it never breaks off inside. Just go easy on it.

I was using tape and get schooled by JohnZ to use paste. Works better and honestly easier to use. Teflon tape was not great for gasoline, not sure what brake fluid would do to it.

Brake fluid destroys Teflon tape, possibly getting in the the system itself and wreaking havoc in there.

I'm a stickler when it comes to using the correct sealant for a specific job. In this case Permatex Pneumatic / Hydraulic Sealant is called for.

The back of the bottle for the permatex thread sealant also says used for hydraulic installations. It should be good also.

Just a thought ... Hydraulic fluid and brake fluid are two different animals ??

I mean, they are essentially hydraulic brakes. DOT 5 is a silicon based hydraulic fluid which should be even easier on the sealant that petroleum based hydraulic fluid.
