Default Speed sensor location?

1995 bad boy Springer OEM mechanical speedometer.

Does it have a speed sensor that can need cleaning? If so where would it be located?

Thanks guys

Top of the transmission.. Pretty Wrong. @bulldog1776 Got the info from the Ronnie fish. Sorry. Knew you said mechanical but couldn't find that in the Fish for a 95 even on the wheel.

You have mechanical speedometer, the sending unit is mounted on the left side of the front wheel. You may be able to purchase an aftermarket unit.

See diagram below for your specific bike, pay no attention to Jackie Paper as he provides bad information. The cable inside the cable assy may be broken and you should be able to find aftermarket for that too. I would inspect both the sending unit and the cable assy to see what is going on.

The speedometer drive is left on the front wheel. They wear out but there's no service other than to replace. They normally last a long, long time.

Usually you can remove the cable from the head, pull the chain out of the housing and grease it good as you push it back through the housing.

That is the only service to it. If greasing the chain doesn't fix it, then it's the head that has malfunctioned. Some of the other guys might know repair centers.

Thanks guys for the help. I did try lubing the cable. I guess the speedometer drive on the wheel may be bad. Is it more likely the speedometer drive is bad rather than the speedometer itself?

I had the little tang break off the sender and replaced it with a piece of tubing glued into the hole in the wheel. I've also taken two apart to make one, but it was winter and I was bored. Best bet if the cable isn't the problem is getting a new one. Be aware there are two different ratios - I think you need the 2240:60 not 2:1. Someone can confirm that

Get the front wheel in the air, even a little, and see if the sensor is spinning with the wheel.

Have not looked in a while, but I think the front wheel sensor is one piece. Inner half spins with the wheel. Outer half has a bent tang that slips in a notch in the spinning part. I had that tang bend out of the notch so it would not spin the cable. I replaced both.
Connect bottom of cable first. Small slot set screw holds that in.
Lube and screw into tach.
Might have to rotate wheel slightly to mate square cable end into tach.
Biggest pain on mine was removing
ultra classic fairing.
JP Cycle still has them I believe.

Beware - the drives have different ratios depending on your wheel size. Check before choosing.

When I replaced the speedo cable on my 1994 FLHTP (fairing) I was able to get to the speedo end of the cable by removing the headligh bucket. That was much easier than removing the outer fairing,
