Hi
I am replacing the stator on my 89 FLHTC and have come upon the removal of the compensating nut. How do I remove it? Can I use an impact? I dont want to hammer anything else loose! If not, how do I hold the engine from turning over? What is the torque when I tighten it up...and again, how do I hold the engine?
Thanks!
3 weeks and my manual is still not in....I cant wait any longer!
You can make a block out of wood, like rock maple or oak, make it only wide enough to hit the teeth on the sprockets. A 45 degree cut works good, then trim it as needed until it fits snug. You can see the teeth marks on mine.
Yeah, impact and a socket is the easy way. Besides that, I've use rags, a turnbuckle and a giant Chineese adjustable wrench (on the road with a shovelhead).
Instead of buying a locking tool i went to walmart and got a rubber sanding block cut one end down pulled the little nails out and jambed it inbetween the sprocket and chainand used a socket and breaker bar worked good on my evo.
