Big Hog pretty much hit it. For example if you ride a 60hp Sportster and a 60hp Fat Boy the Sportster will outperform the Fat Boy, no problem. Just the same as it you took two Fat Boys with the same hp displaced then placed a 250lb man on one and a 130lb man on the other.

The man weighing 130lbs manwill pass the 250lb man like he is standing still. Also add the diminsions of the Sportster, wind resistance, and the gearing of the Sportster, lower gearing. Anyway there is no comparison. Apples and oranges. I hope this helped you.

Well it made for a good ppst, but i aint dead yet.
Im 46 and Ido 55 out of my driveway.Whoever told you Hogs wont run hasnt been on one.We may get beat off the line by those multi cylinderforeign makes but we aint too far back.
Just like old muscle cars, theres no substitute for cubic inches.Properly set up,an 80 or 88 Ci hog will beat the ***** off the sporty and not even get winded.
As for just goin slow, well it aint for me unless my daughters are going for a spin with me.Otherwise ill run till my eyes bleed. You may need to uncork the engine with better cams and pipes along with a nice air cleaner that moves air WHEN THE BIKE IS MOVING!!
Those so called velocity stacks and air cleaners from Kyriakyn are proven to move more air than stock WHEN THEY ARE SITTING IN A DYNO ROOM.Under speed they actually cause a vacum that keeps air from entering the throat of the system. That in turn causes a rich mixture and cuts horsepower.

What kind of riding? I'm not building it to beat the hell out of it constantly, just sometimes. Most of the time I'll be cruising with the rest of the group that for the time being leaves me in the back, WAY IN THE BACK! It's because of that last statement that I'm doing this. Back when I first started riding Harley's I rode an EVO Sportster for a short time, then I bought an old Ironhead Sporty (right foot shift) and an FXE Shovelhead. Back then all the guys I rode with had big twin EVO's and I was in the back. When I'm done I hope to have a sleeper and when the group decides it's time to leave the lowly EVO behind I hope to make a profound statement. That is why I want to do the work, so I can have the satisfaction ofkicking their asses with something I built.Hopefully the time doesn't come until after the break-in period.

Robert
Ok Robert, you want to kick their ***, Try this.

Years ago a freind of mine and Iused to race our HDs at a rolling start of 50mph and I used to pass him like he was on a liesurely ride. Another freind sunk a bunch of money into his bike to make it faster and I passed himon a rolling racelike he was on a liesurly ride also. For a long time they both thought I had a freak stock Harley.

The upgrade to winning the races was free. Harley big twins are geared for cruising. I beat them by down shifting b4 nailing the gas. I guarentee you will keep up and they will wonder what you did to your motor.

Sometime the hardest problems have the simplest answers. By the way guys as far a race bikes HD top fuel drag bike are untouched at the drag strip. Also FYI the Evo tranny shifts the best when power shifted.

For those that do not know how to power shiftI will tell you. Try it you will be amazed. I used to have a Pro drag car. Slicks, roll cage, fast as hell and I was the driver so believe me.

Throttle wide open, never close throttle until you are ready to stop.

Pull in clutch and shift, let go of clutch as fast as you can. Basicly pull in the clutch shift and let it go.

Go through all gears like this except 5th. go to 4th then stop. You can try to go to 5th I normally don't use it power shifting. Basicly after fourth the race is over, or the thrill

It may take abit because you will have a tendancy to release the gaswhen shifting, but that is not power shifting. Keeping the gas wide open the whole time is power shifting. Net the term power shifting.

My pretty much stockEvoshifts the best power shifted. You will be amazed.

Now enjoy your sleeper.
