Default Chrome lowers

I know this may not be the correct place to post this, but I think it will get more traffic here..

I'm planning on adding chrome lowers to my '94 Wide Glide.. What brand have you guys had luck with or just as importantly, have you not been satisfied with anyone in particular? I dont want to spend a chunk of cash on some new parts only to have the chrome start flaking next year, so as much as I want to save money, I'd rather get good stuff thats going to last.. Any and all suggestions will be helpfull.. Dealer vs????

This will be a multi piece project. I'm also planning on adding twisted spokes (chrome or stainless opinions??), and hubs at the same time. The new hub/brake kit looks really cool, though expensive, anyone got them yet? Are they worth the money?

Thanks guys,

HD lowers are only o.k. in my book. Lots of them are wavy from poor polishing prior to plating. For the best results, get a set of take offs and send them to a quality shop for plating. Plating a set of legs usually cost $150-$180.

Ditto on sending yours to a chrome shop. Cost wise I would think a little cheaper than $150.00..

I cannot remember what I paid to get min chromed.

Kinda like that idea too.. I could probably send them the controls to do at the same time for a total of less than new lowers.. I'm liking that.. Anyone know of a good chrome shop in the Atlanta area, orhave a good one elsewhere they recommend? I'll have to explore that a bit. Thanks,

Good thing you asked about a good chrome shop. Without going into detail on how I got screwed by using a chrome shop that did not understand bike parts and my bike being down for about 3 monthes b4 I fixed all of the problems that they caused.

Use a shop that specializes in bike parts you can find them in the bike magazines then call themfor a price. You should only be down a couple of weeks to include shipping time. Good part is there will be no chance of getting defective parts returned to you. Also make sure the chrome shop chromes your parts and does not exchange. While you are at it you may want to sparkle up a few other parts or bolts on your ride.

For top notch chrome, give Advanced Platings in Nashville a call.

As for spokes, go with polished stainless, they look good, are strong and last a long time. The chrome is hard to keep cleanand will eventually rust. There is a chance that the manufacturer (who knows what they do in China) doesn't heat treat the spokes after plating which could lead to hydrogen embrittlement (weakened steel). Your spokes are your life, don't take chances.
I have the HD lowers and they look pretty good, but my bike is not a show bike so I don't need them perfect. I have seen some that are wavy, but not sure if they were HD or not. If you go with a chrome shop, have the nuts on the axle clamp plated and the drain screws.
