Brown's plating has been doing HD's since before time began. I don't know what they are like today (things change), but 25 years ago, they were about the best in the business.
If you can afford it, go with a whole new front end. Not that much more really, and your bike will handle much better. I went with chromed after market HD legs and it cost $200 bucks, and then about another $100 to put em on. I also have a wide glide front end and use a fork brace of which stiffens up the ride, and makes it much more responsive, but if I could do it all over again, I would just chuck the HD stuff and get a whole new front end like Ultima 58 mm or something of that nature for about $500.
Nice, is that the factory hub or did you replce/chrome it?
Factory chrome hub and factory zinc plated spokes, just lots of scrubbing.
It looks good.. Mine is stamped steel and just looks out of place. I think that was one of the things that changed over the years. My buddy has the aluminum hub on his '99 too..
I'll take a look at Browns too, looks like they do good work too..
Thanks,
Just my .02 have you checked any of the independent bike shops in the Atlanta area. Look around for a chrome exchange program. I took mine to a plater and had them done for $100. As for your wheel those customs look real nice with the fat spoke front wheels. Also as was said don't skimp on the wheel it leads the way. Kent
Got an update on my lowers.. I found a set on e-bay. New HD chrome lowers. $110 delivered to my door.. Really couldnt beat it, any way I looked at it. I plan to have it all back together tomorrow for a scoot. This should finish my winter project or new lowers, bars, controls, and mirrors.. The hardest part so far is making the decision of what doesnt need to be chromed. I keep finding more pieces that look out of place... I'm trying to live with it until I need tires and openthe twisted spoke can of worms...
I found a set of chrome lowers on Ebay for 279 as I wanted the dual disc set up for aFL softail(harley doesn't make a set for these as the fender mounts are different than the deckers) they were new from custom chrome in the box, Hidden axel, now the clunk I had in the old lowers is gone. All the stock bushings and seals fit no problem.
Sent mine out to Browns Plating in 94. 14 years later no problems. A friend had his primary done locally in Denver and it started to peal off within a couple of months. Go with Browns you will not be sorry.
