i just rebuilt the kehein cv carb on my fatboy yesterday. today when i came home there was a little bit of gas on the floor. what is the adjustment for the float on this carb. it is on a 93 fatboy with a thunderslide kit just installed as well.
the float height for that carb should be in your service man. if you don't have one you really do need to get one. with that being said , generally speaking most all carbs" most" can be set by being upside down and as the float " center" is level with the carb body, the float tang should just be putting slight pressure on the needle.
Also it was just rebuilt? did you replace the float? was the float "heavy"? did you get the needle seat tight? did you use a new gasket with the seat?
AND be sure it's the float problem..... leaking filter? fuel line? tank connection?
just a few things to check out before carb removal.....
hope this helps you out some.
John
thanks for the info. i do have a service manual. a genuine harley manual however, it seems some of the things written in it are in there own language. everything in the carb is new. i rebuilt it myself. i did not replace the float but i did replace everything else in the carb. the float was in good shape and didn't seem heavy.
well, i took it apart to find that the plastic inlet nipple on the fuel line had a stress crack in it that was weeping gas. so now i get to go my indy and see if he has one, otherwise it is off to the stealer!!!!!!!!!!!
I believe there are replacement brass nipples to be had. Bring money, it probably ain't cheap but I wouldn't want to put another plastic one on the carb. I hope it ain't too expensive. Good luck.
i just called my local indy. said he has an all brass one in stock so. however, it is actually snowing right know in upstate new york. maybe it will let up later so i can get out and ride!!!!!! Thanks everybody!!!!!
