Default Lifters?

I need some lifters my question is should i use hydro solids or just a goodhydraulic lifter such as s/s.I havent used any of the hydo solids before and would like feed back from those who have.
The problem im having is at 4000-4500 +rpm it seemsthe lifters arent lifting. It goes from normal tick to a loud slaping, same as lifters that havent pumped up.
This is an 97 evo i just built so i know all the clearances and valve timing are good,as i blueprinted everything.I did use some cheap lifters claiming to be good for 6000+rpm and 600 lift cams, hey you dont know till ya try.
The engine is 83ci/10.5:1 with a ev51 cam and 150lbs springs.

If you still have the orig HD lifters stick them back in and see if that makes a difference

Why on earth would you go through all that trouble on the build and put in some "cheap" lifters.Seems to me you asked for trouble. There are things you just don`t skimp on.If the lifter is indeed the problem, now you know.Did you relieve the case at the cam bearing? It may not have needed it depending on the cam and how big the base circle is.Good luck,Toby

FWIW,

As part of an engine top end upgrade, I just installed a .595 lift V-Thunder cam in my Evo. I removed the HD SE lifters that had been installed on the previous .495 lift cam. Did I have to do this? probably not with less than 1000 miles on the parts.

Do yourself a favor and use a good quality lifter your engine will thank you for it. As I used a V-Thunder cam, so I installed V-Thunder lifters. The set cost me a little less that $125.00 and is warranteed for life. What that really means is that if a lifter fails it will be replaced free of charge. The labor charges and any damage caused by that failed lifter would not be covered.

Any quality lifter such as S&S,V-Thunder,Crane and so forth should work just fine for you. Alot of members swear by the new upgraded HD "B" lifter. These can be purchased through a discout HD dealer such as Zanotti's or Chicago HD for about $100.00 a set. Stay away from the eBay stuff unless you know exactly what you are buying. A guy has genuine HD lifters for sale, but they areNOS "A" type, not the latest design "B" type.

I installed the lifters, cranked the engine over to pump them up and installed my SE pushrods. I then followed the adjustment instructions allowing 20 minutes of bleed down time between cylinders. The installation went without a hitch and everything is working as it should.

Good luck with your decision.
