Default Idle Issues

Hello, new here and first time Harley owner. I picked up a 93 Heritage with 15,000 miles on it. &nbsp\\;It ran a pretty good but the first long ride&nbsp\\;and it&nbsp\\;seemed to be a bit doggy, about two hours in to the ride the carb started to leak&nbsp\\;pretty bad.&nbsp\\;So I got it to my Dads house pulled the carb to clean it out and do a partial rebuild with what ever new parts I could find in his garage. Didnt find any real dirt in the carb. Put it back on and now the idle is fine on cold start up then after a short ride come to a stop and it stays around 1500 and some times will come back down to 1000 where I set it. I did notice a crack in the front intake flange could this be the issue or do you guys have a better idea. I ordered up a carb rebuild kit, Baffles for the straight fish tails, intake flanges and a high-flow acc pump kit. The only mods I can tell on the motor is a coil and SE high air flow kit. Also I cant find a setting in the book for the mixture screw, any one know? I just set it by sound.

Thanks
JP

Change the cracked intake flange &amp\\; gaskets first. Tell us what pilot jet you have in it and that will help us to tell you approx where to set the idle screw. In is lean, out is rich, with the right pilot{45} some where around 1 turn out, {42} 3+ turns out. Where ever it idles best and eliminates the off idle stumble. This is Harley jets not Dyno jet stuff which is junk. Others opinions may vary

I should mention that it will always pick some up idle speed when the oil gets hot and the motor turns over easier

Fix the crack before anything else, while you have everything apart check the carb slide is dropping all the way down and that it is not sticking - also check the throttle cables and linkages. Check the basics before altering the idle jet etc.
