Have a 92 evo and it is leaking oil from the front right hand base gasket. I have removed the barrel once before and found that it is leaking from the welsh plug that is fitted to the oil gallery that runs down past the lifters to the oil pump.
Has anyone had this problem or heard of it and what is the fix.

I had a similar problem after accidently prying loose the plug on my nose cone when doing a cam job. I cleaned it out good with contact cleaner and stuffed the indention full of silicone rubber gasket maker/sealer - worked great.

Unless you have the cases split, I'd be hesitant to disturb that plug. Try my trick - clean and dry with contact cleaner, pressing \\;the journal \\;full as possible with your finger and leaving it as flush to the block as you can. Let it set up at least overnight before going back with the jug. If you go back with paper gaskets, use Permatex Halomar. It's pricey but darn good stuff. Use a very light coat - just enough to change the color of the gasket material. If you use the expensive metal/silicone base gasket, I'd still put a tiny spot on it on the area where that plug is. You can wipe off any excess after it's all torqued down.
Finally got the bike back.
The r/h case has a very fine crack in it that runs right along side the oil gallery and then up toward the back barrell. I have been told that this is a common problem on the 92 models.
