Hi Speed Issue
Had my 1996 FLSTF out on highway this weekend and took it up to 85 MPH for the first time. It felt very unstable, very wobbly. Was wondering about possible causes. My first thought was the crosswind of highway and the solid front wheel, but after thinking on it, it seemed to consistent for that type of problem. I was looking at my solid rims, and did not detect any type of wheel weights for tire balance, any thoughts? The bike has had new chrome lower fork legs added, could that effect handling at high speeds. All suggestions appreciated.
Jack the front end off the ground, secure the bike, go around front and lift up on the forks. If they move it is time for an adjustment or new bearings.
Also like the other poster said check the tires for wear and have them balanced.
My bike handled like a truck when I first got it. Had the front end serviced and the neck bearings replaced and rides like a Cadillac.
