Default Brake light problem

Anyone know how hard is it to replace the front brake light switch on a 95 model Dyna? My brake light works when I step on the brake pedal, but not when I pull the front brake lever.

May not be the switch. Have you had the right side apart for anything lately? It's real easy to get the assembly out of line with the lever and it only takes 1/32 of an inch out of true to keep it from working. And, they will stick over time. If you can see the pin that sticks out from the switch/housing (behind the lever) and even get some tweezers to it and pull.......

Otherwise, it's straightforward. Disassemble the right handlebar lever housing and it's only held in with one screw, if memory serves me. Then getting the wires removed and run is the real challenge. If you have a tiny bit of slack, you can remove the wires from the new switch and solder it back to the original wires.

Try the easy stuff first and good luck.

Thanks t150vej! My local Indy shop recently rebuilt both my front and rear master cylinders, so the assembly has been apart. The way their work has been turning out lately I wouldn't doubt they got it out of line. I guess they are going to force me to start doing all the work on the bike myself.

Theirs not much to it Joe. Looke like you have chrome controls. The screws may be hidden. I've got to take the master cyl off the bar to get to my other screw (2 of them). But, its just a button switch. Cover the tank with something and take the control apart activate the switch and you should be able to find the problem. Its possible that you may need an extra hand to help you, but I do all my work by myself, so its possible...

My first new bike in '74 got messed up on the 500 mile warranty checkup, so I haven't let anyone touch anything on any of my bikes since... and I still have to be careful and sometimes "re-do" that front brake switch if I have anything apart on that side. That's a REAL easy one to get "not right" on re-assembly so don't fire-bomb the place yet Have a good day.

PS:
The switch is normally closed, meaning when the pin is out, the brake light should be on, the lever pushes it in to break the contact. That's why I mentioned trying to pull it with tweezers or whatever. You might even try contact cleaner sprayed into the area where the lever touches it. It's usually just one of those "tinker-with" kinda things.
