Default 1987 fxlr

Hello gang, I just am finishing up a restoration on my 87 FXLR ( I am the original owner) took about 6 months, I have to install some more chrome controls and minor odds and ends, but I think it turned out pretty decent for a garage project.

Pretty sweet looking bike. Hats off for "home projects"! ('Bout the only way I've ever been able to afford riding!)

Nice job, looks very good. I am in the process of rebuilding my 1987 FXLR. I am the second owner. I am going the more custom route on mine. Drag bars and forward controls, I am going to change the tank and fenders also. I will keep all the stock parts in case I ever want to restore it to original, or God forbid I sell it and the new owner wants the original parts. Again Great Job on the restoration.

Thanks Fellas, This bike had performed for me so flawlessly as it got tarnished with the years. I was not sure what to do to it to celebrate such a fine machine. I have seen lots of FXLR s customized, but nothing like " lets chrome everything we can" and go from there. Ebay has been a "God" send in that between NOS and dealer issued OS, I was able to get just about everything new ( seat, tank pad {10 Anniversary edition} new tach and speedo, carb back, rack, side covers , new chrome controls etc.
I chromed the complete front end, polished the rotors and installed all new chrome spokes on the front wheel along with a new chrome hub. The rear wheel got chromed along with a new rotor and sprocket cover and guards. Then I topped it off with a somewhat funky metal flake paint job and custom HD emblems.
I stripped and painted the barrels and heads wrinkle black and added new chrome accent parts, along with new foot pegs from HD.
I have yet to install a new small HD mini windshield, but that will come soon.
All in all I think the FXLR was one of HD's best bikes and a classic like the Bad Boy was. I am pleased with the way it turned out, for being 22 years old it looks brand new.

Looks nice.

I think that era bike was the best HD ever produced. But then, I may be a bit biased.

Stop being so modest that bike came out great. It's nice to see one just classed up instead of chopped, slamed, painted and hacked. Pretty cool how it has no tank dash and just one filler cap.

have been on the hunt for an FXR for a long time. Just need to find the right one for the right price (and have the money LOL) and I'm there.

All I ever hear is good things about the FXRs and I always have liked them. Especially after seeing HDMM god knows how many times.

Take care of it they are getting more and more scarce.
