Default my turn

I have a 1986 FLHTC, radio has s--t the bed. This bike came with the inner fairing with 4 small gauges and the big tach-speedo.Should I change to the inner with 2 small gauges and the big tach- speedo?Does that give me more room for the new style radio.Which years will fit my 1986? any help would be great.

You can make about anything fit with a die grinder. Seriously, that's what you'll have to do. A lot of people are going for the Sony marine radio. I think I would do that next. I have another brand marine radio, which works OK, but the MP3 player won't work when the bike is running. Too much vibration. I do like the weather channels, though. A newer model might have a USB port.

Do you have any idea which way is the best way to go.I hate to cut up my 1986 inner fairing its the ones that were painted from factory.I see another member changed his and cut his up to fit. and he has a 1988 inner for sale,I`m wondering what it would take to make that fit a 1986?

My faring wasn't painted from the factory. You really only need to cut on the inner metal plate area behind the plastic, and maybe some of the plastic, depending on what radio you put in it. I guess you've found that the original radio is now unobtainium.

My radio in my 1987 went last summer. They used the same one in 86 and 87. I just picked up a shaft style off Ebay and got a cassette Ipod adapter. No handle bar controls , but I have tunes.

I don't know which one the guys are using. And they change models regularly. Just google up sony marine radio and go from there. When I finally get fed up with what I have, that's what I'll do. The key is "marine" rated. The radio I have, you can hit it with a high pressure hose and it won't bother it a bit.

I know this is an old post, but I am about to do the same for a 1987 FLH and I have some questions. Are you still hanging around here?
