hey Schooner i just removed my brake caliper then the axle bolt on the front tire. its easy on my bike, so was the back tire to remove. not sure on yours, you have a electric glide and might have a few more things to take off. but with the manual its easy.

shouldn't have to remove tires to remove fenders..

rear: unbolt the lower shocks & lower down wheel, disconnect wiring at the connection & unbolt fender

front: just remove bolts & remove fender

My 2 cents, I got Dunlop Elite III's and I really like them. Good grip, long wear, and it doesn't follow grooves in the pavement anymore.

I started out with Avons, but have been using Metzelers now for 15 years or so. Their ME-1 (Comp K) was the best tire I've ever used, but it is being phased out and replaced by the ME880, which is what I've been using for a few years now. Still better than Dunlop in that I like a soft, sticky tire. Not as much in the way of mileage like a harder tire, but way better in the performance department.

I have Avon Venoms on my 1990 bike. Avon also do a 140 rear and I have sized it up. Their 130 is actually 133mm wide and on my bike just polishes the belt guard when properly aligned.

Their 140 is actually 143mm wide, so to fit one I need to find 5mm or 3/16 inch of room for it. I reckon if I cut away the inside of the belt guard where that polish mark is, one will just about squeeze in! My current tyres have plenty of life in them, but I will try a 140 at the next change.

So check the specs for Metzelers and how much space you have with your current tyre.

how much taller is a Metzler 140 to the 130?
Would it be a 140/80 instead of 130/90?

If you go to their website you will find they only do a 140/90 x 16. Unfortunately they don't seem to give rolling diameters, which would answer your second question.

http://www.us.metzelermoto.com/web/c...catalog/custom

However we can work out the difference. A 130/90 is 90 percent of 130 tall, or 117mm. A 140/90 is 126mm tall, in other words either 9mm taller, or just under 3/8 inches.

Bear in mind that Avon's tyres are actually 133mm and 143mm wide, although the difference in height is about the same. I can't find the same data for Metzelers.

Hmmm, I lowered the WG 5/8ths, and go up 3/8ths with tire diameter.
That works. Next year have to go to the 140.

I am happy with the Metzlers, front and back.

Actually, that 117 and 126 is the sidewall height, to get the diameter you have to multiply by 2 so the tires are 18mm taller which is about 11/16" (to get overall dia=rim dia. + (2 x sidewall))
