I'm an owner of a 86' FXWG (kickstart and elec. start) it has a stage two upgrade (super E carb, revtech dual fire ignition, bolt-in cam) I'm just running the stock exhaust at the moment. But I want to squeeze the most performance out of the engine, and could care less how loud it is. any suggestions? I've heard that drag pipes aren't very good if your looking for low-end to mid torque. I just would like to know what would give me the best performance across the entire range low, mid, and high. any help? I'd appreciate it.
Don't know if this will help or hurt ya but here ya go. I ride a '99 softail with the K&N filter, stage one upgrade, andrews ev 27 cam, rev-tech lifters, S&S adjustable push rods, S&S breather gear, Crane Hi4 single fire ignition system, CV carb redone and I had the Santee long shots on it for 2 years plus a little. I recently went with the V&H big radius 2 into 2 with the standard baffles in and I love them. The V&H pipes made a world of difference on the performance of the bike. They sound a ton better and moved the power band back down to a usable area where I don't have to have the r's up to get power but they will still wind as far as I need the bike to and it feels like it is still pulling in the upper rpm range. If you go the pipe route look on e-bay, that's where I found mine, used that looked new, and I saved about 250 to 300 dollars on them. Don't know if this is of any use but just thought I would give you a little something.

the big radius pipes are great, I have had them on 2 different choppers.
I also have a 85 FXWG (original owner). The big radius pipes won't work with the kicker.
you will want someting with baffles in order to keep your low end torque. First look at which pipes will even fit and still allow your kicker to function (your choices are very limited) and then decide.
Thunderheader, its the best for these natrualy aspirated engines. The end has a venturi that collects the outside air that goes around it and suck the exhaust out of the pipe. The sound is awsome when you get on it and when your cruis'n slow through town the rumble is loud. Open up the top end of the motor and the thunderheader will scream. Message me and I'll see if I can get a video of mine to you.
