Default 2 into 1 POWER

I have a 94 Road King, I made a DIY 2 into 1 with a 1 5/8 freeze plug in the left side pipe it seems to work good? Just wondering how much better the Mid-Range would be with a thunderheader or real 2-into-1.

I've never run on, but they are tuned exhaust and from all I've read, heard and ridden, the 2-1 is the best set-up for power and torque in all rpm ranges. And really, they sound good too.

Default Homemade 2 into 1

I have read alot (I know its a major topic) about the 2 into 1 benefits just wondering if any body has any evidence or opinions on that homemade 2 into 1 vs the real thing? It seems like the pipes would be about the same, creating the same backpressure, and breathing as a real 2into1?

Not exactly... what you're running (which is just fine) is unequal lengths. That is, the front cylinder is traveling an extra 12" or so compared to the rear, and the rear exhaust is "running into it" on it's way out. The front gases are somewhat siphoning the rear on the way by, but with a tuned design on 2-1's both pipes are equal length, equal backpressure and figures will show, produce better results than any other setup.

Granted, it sounds like "spliting hairs" and HD for years ran exactly what you've made - 2 down pipes, with one exhaust and far be it from me to claim any to be an authority on exhaust. Just run what you like the looks of... unless you're hung-up on dyno numbers or something. Me, I like pipes on both sides of a Dresser and I ride on the highway, riding on a dyno is boring cause the scenery never changes
