I had the exact problem last summer. ended up the crane hi-4 ignition was the culprit. I put in a new ( not crane) ignition and all has been fine since.

I have checked the coil, both the primary and secondary ohm readings were within limits. But put the originals back on and its been good so far. The coil might have been failing when it was hot???
Have an 89 and went thru the same thing twice, both times coil had gone south and worked fine til it heated up, the shut me down.
