Replacing Gauge bulb
How embarrasing is this - I don't know how to replace the bulb in the instrument package (speedo, etc) on an 84 FLHTC. Service manual basically says if bulb is burned out replace it. Thanks guys
I have the instruments pulled for replacing a fork seal and want to put new bulbs in - the oil light is burned out and I think I'll just replace them all this afternoon while I'm at it.
There is a rubber boot over the end of the bulbs and it's not obvious how to manipulate it to get to the bulb. Very soft rubber and I'm concerned about pulling the boot apart if I just mess around until I figure it out.
Input/advice appreciated.

They should just pull out, you can take a small screwdriver and GENTLY work it around the outside to break any kind of bond that the rubber may have developed over the years with the metal. Hope this helps.
Thanks gents. Didn't want to just start pulling and twisting and make job I was doing even bigger.
Doing one thing - creating other issues. For example - putting everything back together yesterday my left turn signal wasn't working once I got the instruments back on and the battery installed. I broke the wire off the switch at the solder point while opening the handlebar switch housing. Turned out to be a bad connect to the 4way flasher switch that came off while reinstalling the instruments. That is one packed pod in there.
Read somewhere that someone put in a 'softtail air anti-dive' system which made for some more room under the instrument package. If I have to go in there too many more times I may start thinking about that. I always wonder what exactly I'm compressing as I press down the instrument panel to reinstall.
