I have the Colony oversized plug. The tap is way to big. It also appears that the shoulders on the pug will interfere with the inner primary. The case on my 93 FLSTF extends out and I'm not sure that the plug would bottom as intended. Thought about using a shop vac to keep shavings out of the crankcase but I don't think it will work.

3/8 pipe plug is close but still have the shavings issue. Foung a neoprene expansion plug that fits but if you've ever seen what will come out of crankcase when the plug is out failure would not be a pretty sight. Also not sure what temp and oil would do to plug. Thanks to everyong who has chimed in. No such thing as a bad suggestion.

The Jims tool works well is cheaper and takes up less room than a press. You can also get the same tool from Georges Garage, check out their website. What we would use to fix it, if the cases were split is a Keen-sert. After it was installed we would machine the excess flush with the case. Then you would have a steel insert that was almost impossible to strip. You are right in assuming that you would need at least a few threads to hold it in as the crankcase pressures would blow it out otherwise. Hope this helps.

They make rubber expansion plugs for stripped out oil pans............most auto stores have them. They seal very well. It'll get ya back on the road quick........till you get the oversize tap & plug kit

The problem with the oversize, self tapping or rubber expansion types is there is limited room between the case and the flywheel. Those types of plugs will all hit the flywheel.

Very limited room. That and the fear of fogging myself and the wife when it blows out is stopping me. Checked out Georges and it's alot cheaper than Jim's. Is the quality there?

George's is really good quality. I have been to his place and I own some of his tools. Great guy too.

Keep us appraised of your progress!! Don't tell anyone, but since we discovered Georges our tool bills are lower and they work just as well as the more expensive ones. Graet people to do business with.
