Since S&S bought out Crane the HI-4 are becoming scarce. The dyna 2000I is a great ignition, easily programed and can be tinkered with even more with a computer and software.
I just put a new SE one on my 87 FLHTC. There is on on Ebay right now, or you can have the dealer do a search and they will tell you who has one. Thats how I got mine. There was none on ebay at the time. It just unplugs and plug the new one in. There are two nuts that hold mine to the frame. You might have to take out your headlight or take the faring off to get to the plug.
The Screaming Eagle module still uses the original pickup in the nose cone. They do have a "all in one" unit for Sportsters at the dealers. Only difference from the early SE modules and the ones still avaliable is the plug on the end. But I've never modified one so can't help on that.
I've been running the ultima version of the Dyna2000i for about 8000 miles and all is well so far.
Easy to install, no timing light needed and has a lead for a tach. 4 advance curves and selectable single/dual fire and "VOES=retard" switches.
And if you want to do the extra 125.00 or so for the cables and software, you can use a laptop and get totally amazed
(But you probably won't need to unless it's a very radical build)
Now I don't know whether to expect a check from Dyna for advertising or whether the aftermarket police are on the way since I only paid 150.00 plus shipping.... So George, John and 96FXD, you may get a check from me or I'll call and hope you'll bail me out - could go either way here but you know I'm always willing to share
