'94 FLHTC Carb Problem
I recently installed new throttle cables on my '94 Classic and had adjusted them to where at full throttle, the throttle stop on the carb is all the way around just touching the other stop piece. Since then I have removed the carb to clean it and replace the choke cable. I noticed several things not looking quite right. When I manually rotate the throttle mechanism around to full throttle, the stops don't come anywhere near each other as shown in the picture below.

Second of all, where the throttle cable ends connect to the carb, the metal looks bent apart. Is this right or wrong? See picture below.

The butterfly now only opens this far.

Final picture shows an overall side view of the carb. Is everything in its place mechanically?

I had the carb stored at my workbench in a box while waiting for parts.

tj-- I have done a few carb change-outs and the butterfly should open to almost fully horizontal.
Sorry to ask but are you sure you have not confused the idle cable with the throttle cable and taken up slack on idle return cable, and left the throttle cable too slack?
To check just back off the idle return cable fully. Its the cable coming out of the throttle assembly nearest to you when sitting on the bike.
Then take up the throttle cable adjustment (the other one) until you feel by touching the butterfly as you roll the throttle manually, that the B'fly is fully open and will not move further. It should be almost fully horizontal at this point. If not keep tightening the throttle adjuster until the above occurs.
If this works then slowly tighten the idle return adjuster but still leave a bit of slack in it. If you have gone too far with this adjustment you will feel resistance on the throttle grip when you twist it and it might not "snap" back to idle as it should.
if this happens just put a bit more slack in the idle return cable until it is relaxed enough to allow the grip to snap back to full idle smartly.
If I was at home I would re-check this for you on my softail but I think I have covered it. Please let us know what you find out of interest.
