Default '89 Electra Glide

Hey guys, Anything special to look at or know about on an '89 FLH?? I'm not really in the market, but these dont come around often and I ran across one with 30k for $5k.. Seems like it might be a good deal.. Thoughts??

Rear cylinder base gasket migrates and leaks, and the OE intake manifold boots dry-rot, but other than that good engine. A CV carb may be a good upgrade, and at that point, the manifold seal issues can be addressed as well.

I'd buy it Greg

BTW - Stock bases were paper and we all know about that by now but circa 1.5 years ago, HD briefly went to a coated metal base gasket and quickly switched to a Mylar print-o-seal (one side) and they will not leak! (had my heads off 3 times without disturbing the jugs, 3500 miles later and still no base leaks)

Would be a good ride if there are no other major issues, try and haggle it down some more, can't hurt.....JMHO, YMMV, etc.

Any issues with getting parts? (ie: things that only fit an '89 FLH)

I understand parts availability isses on anything old enough to drink.. I'm concerned more about oddball stuff.

Thanks,

It's barely broke in. Good find.

It's pretty much all available except odd stuff like gauges (new ones look different but interchange) and fiberglass stuff is mostly obsolete with HD. But all that stuff is around and there's nothing oddball about any of it. Engine, clutch, transmission, starter, bearings, seals, cables it's all common stuff...

Greg, just as well come off some of your molded money and buy it - we're gonna hound you until you do anyway

Yeah, 30K is just broke in. Parts aren't too bad to find. Late model exhausts bolt right on, for example. Most other stuff can be ordered, except a few oddball things as Rufus mentions. If it's still Compliance fittings for the intake, dump that.

Damn Rufus, I was hoping you'd say "RUN!!!".... I'm gonna have to break it to momma tonight that we might be taking in a new stray..... With any luck, the guy will have it sold before I can get to the bank, I'll keep you guys posted, thanks for the input.. I've been wanting to build an EVO Stretglide, this one may be worth looking at.. If I hadnt just bought her Sporty, it wouldnt be so difficult to decide..
