Yeah, I looked at the JIMS pulley kit... the list is $498! For a pulley, the "meganut", the spacer, and the two seals! Give me a break! I know JIMS stuff is good, but I personally think it's WAY overpriced... I'll wait 'til I really need to replace things before I spend that much for a pulley!

I don't think $62 plus shipping is a lot for that particular part. But we all have our own idea of what 'too much' is.

That is about double the price of the Harley nut.

The OEM lock works the same way, just that the lock is a separate part.

Both use two bolts to hold the lock to the pulley, and the two bolts are the weak link.

If the bolts are removed they should not be re-used.

A little cheaper here if anyone is interested, The newer style Harley set up looks OK and if the bolts don't break or back out it should hold it. The Jims set-up looks to allow a little more adjustment in the nut torque to get the holes lined up.

I just hope I have the newer style pully (94) and that I don't have to mess with it..I have to get a heater for my garage...

Only advice I can add is be careful of where you buy your parts and who manufacturers them. When my pulley went south I followed Hackd's advice and purchased a BDL 32T newer style pulley kit and resealed the primary side. I did not use the Jims Meganut though as cash was short at the time. I did install 160,000 PSI rated Diamond 1/4" X 20 bolts with red locktite on the BDL kit and have had no further problems.

Thumbs up Parden me

I didn't read all the reply pages Doug but I had this same leak at about the same mileage on a '99 Softail I had. It was the jackshaft seal that's on the back side of the inner primary. Check that out. They can sometimes get kinda egg shaped where the shaft goes through. Dealer never explained why, just put a new one in.

Maybe that will help you.

Just thought I'd update this, road salt got washed away and temps are on the rise so I cleaned everything real good and started riding it. Inside of the primary got wet, pully area is dry and I noticed the trans vent tube looked to be wet on the end. Cleaned everything again and re-routed the trans vent out between the oilbag and outer primary so I could watch it..No more oil on the inner primary and the tube is dry-probably because the end is higher...Looks like I don't need to take it apart..yet!

So, I learned alot about the primary, drive and trans seals, thanks..

Now I have to find out why all of a sudden, did the trans start blowing a little oil out of the vent...another thread!!

Thanks,
Doug
