seen it too many times, the early pully`s with the narrow splines were junk,if the splines are even slightly damaged, replace the final drive in the trans(the gear with the splines)or it will come loose again, tightening it again or locktite WONT help, replace it with the later model parts(the wide spline pully)you will also need the late seal & spacer

As it turned out the spacer was completely corroded causing the main seal failure and the pulley was shot. He also cheated by removing part of the left side swingarm to get the new belt through. Not a bad idea if you can do this without causing a later mislaingnment failure. I'll be paying a visit to him soon as a surprise. Sent him a defective Pingle petcock over two years ago that "disappeared", with no further reponse. Either I'll get a new Pingel, or be going to jail for taking one out of stock or his beating his a$$. For anyone who cares, name of the business is Red Racing, located in Boca Raton, Florida.
I hear you Buddy!

I cheated my belt off/on by taking the left passenger floorboard mount/clevebloc out and didn't put and unacceptable bind on the new belt. I only did inner primary seals on that job. Did the transmission bearings 15,000 later and the nut was still tight and the screw was too so I went back with the original... plus "red" on the threads and "blue" on the screw It torqued back exactly where it had been so I'm good with it.

Yep, it's easy enough to have something go wrong, sometimes for no apparent reason, but cutting corners, doing crappy work and being less than honest has put a lot of folks out of business and rightfully so - sounds like you found one that just hasn't gone down yet. But like Granny always said; "the sun don't shine on the same dogs azz everyday."

Hang in there bro...

I have a 2000 Fatboy and was in the process of changing my drive belt again for the 3rd time...this time I found both bolts that hold the lock washer sheard off and just floating around. What I thought was belt noise was the two bolts, even though my belt is missing some lugs...The pully is still tight on the shaft but the lock ring had to of been spun by the pully nut to of sheard the two bolts off. Should I remove the pully and check...don't have the socket to get at it...

Thanks guy!
