Question shaving the heads

Hi,I recently had an Andrews ev46 cam installed in my 99 fxstc.I'm still running the stock compression. My question is how much of a difference would it make if i had the heads shaved .050 and installed an .030 headgasket that should get me around 9.5/1 compression ? right? I read somewhere thats where the Andrews ev46 shines. any help or insight on this would be greatly apprecciated !! Thanks, Frank

You'll most likely have to replace the cylinder base gaskets when you pull the heads. Granted that can be done without pulling the pistons out of the cylinders, thereby saving the ring job, but have you considered spending a little more money and buying the correct pistons to raise your compression rather than butcher a good set of heads?

the headsshould be cc`ed,but .050 off the head and .030 gaskets should put you at
-.060,witch should be between 9.0-1 to 9.2-1

Is it the performance increase worth the amount of money it'll take to do it ?

Like stated before, a set of pistons is another option, one of which i have used, and yes a 9.5-10 to 1 bike with that cam, will fit like a hit of nitrous, my 80incher i just sold, .020 over 10 to 1, cycle rama heads, with a vthunder cam, was just brutal in my fxr, would just abuse the rear tire from a roll, ask 93fxr, hed tell ya, he seen it in person, you wont regret it.

your right on matching your compression to your cam. some guys put in a cam and wonder why they dont see that much improvement over stock, well the cam manufactures tell you what compression the cam is designed for. and compression is power. i dont know if upping it a point or two is going to be like adding nitrous but you would notice a difference. i think 9 & 1/2 to 1 would be perfect.
