Hi
I have some Harley Tranmission oil, #99892-84, can I use this in a 1340 evo engine in the primary case as well as tranny?
Thanks.
Tony.
I don't know exactly what that is by the part number, but if it says "semi-synthetic transmission" DO NOT put that in the primary. Use automatic transmission fluid or hydraulic fluid if "primary fluid" is unavaliable there.
That Harley transmission oil is gear oil. Only use it in the transmission and nothing else. I've never had gear oil in the primary....but here say it messes with the clutch.
I even still have an older HD transmission quart....and it says 80w90 with GL5
Gear oil in the tranny and I've run non-synthetic 10w-30, 10w-40, and straight 30 weight eng oil in the primary of my Evo. Many miles, same chain, no problems.
I run type-F transmission fluid in the sealed primary of my Shovel so the day it starts to leak, Ill know right away which component (engine, tranny, or primary) is guilty.
Thanks for replies people.
The reason I asked is that the current Harley oil for the transmission and primary is just the one, part# 99851-05. Harley do not now supply (in Ireland at any rate) seperate oils as they used to. So as I had the 99892-84 transmission oil on the shelf, I was wondering if it was the same, but as there seems to be some doubt I will just get the 99851-05.
Cheers
Tony.
