Default EV13 or EV27 for 96 Road King?

I have a 96 Road King with only 6200 miles on it. The PO had left it bone stock. I'm in the process of doing stage 1, punched out the mufflers and adding a Big Sucker (have to modify it) and a RevTech DFO. I was looking at Andrews Cams, bolt ins, and couldn't decide if I'd be better off with EV13 or EV27. I'm not a long haul tourer, the bike will be used as a commuter, 25 miles each way, and a day tripper. From the descriptions on Andrews web site it seems like the 27 would be preferrable. Anyone using this cam? Am I barking up the wrong tree or in the wrong woods?

imo. the 27 is better grind than the 13, I'm not a andrews fan tho, they have radical ramps that cause valve train noise, do yourself a favor, check out the vthunder line, specifically the evl 3020. works with stock compression and is very receptive to added compression.

Wrong 'woods' indeed-- Look into a Bob Woods W-6 cam if you want grunt with a bit less valve train noise than the EV-27.

Agree with gsxer-- hard to go past V Thunder cams but for a heavy bike I would lean towards the EV-3010.

I run the EV27 in my FLHS. It's an excellent cam, IMO for a heavy bike. Add a free flow air cleaner and exhaust and you'll smile after every ride.

I put a Woods W6 in my 1998 RK EFI and it was a great move. Very good drivable power band...pulls from 1800 on my RK with a strong mid range. Made the bike fun to ride and my gas mileage went up...something I did not expect. Just another option for you.

I went with the 13 in my 94 EG and very happy with the performance but as earlier stated it does have some valve train noise but getting used to it. I was also undesided on which cam to go with and decided on the 13 as this cam is best with stock 8.5.1 compression the 27 needs bumped to at least 9.1 to perform well. The 13 added alot more torque and thats what i was after as I really dont rev the bike anyway. It pulls good all the way up to 4RPM after that not much there. Good luck with your choice.

I ended up going with the EV27. I chose this cam because its tried and true...been around forever and seems reliable for the long haul. Lifter noise-yes,but I expected that. The noise is not unbearable and the performance is like night and day compared to stock!
If I remember correctly, the dyno numbers are 77 horses with a hair under 86 ft pnds of torque! Thats with a free flowing air cleaner and punched out stock exhaust!
A number of people will tell you to go with the Torrington bearing. I would also strongly recommend it....peace of mind is everything!
