All the breakers changed and now I show voltage on both sides of the breakers, I went for a 2 hour ride on the hiway yesterday and engine never cut out once, although I did loose my tail light along with rear brake lite and my passing lites, the front brake works ok for the tail lite, any ideas ? perhaps I missed a wire when changing the breakers?

Can't say about the passing lamps, but the brake light wires (front and rear) connect at the anti-dive valve and from there, the power goes to the brake light itself. Could have one off there from the rear brake switch. Otherwise the tail light side of the bulb may simply be out, bad rear brake light switch or lost ground to the light itself or any combination. It's a witches nightmare in those dashes and real easy to have a connector not like it should be or to knock one loose on re-assembly. There's another connector block under the left sidecover that feeds all that too...

I joined the brake switch wires together and rear brake lite works so looks like rear brake switch is gone and yesterday I recall the rear brake pedal went really hard when I pressed on it. Trouble is I don't recall if the tail lamp came on or not when I turned the lites switch on, all the bag lites and round upper running lites come on so maybe the tail lamp running lite doesn't come on normally but then again I checked the bulb and its a double element bulb, strange.

Here's an update , replaced rear break switch and bled the rear caliper and brake lite is ok.
Changed all the breakers and no more cut out.

i had to replace the rear break light switch a couple of times on the 85. auto parts store switch, about $5. the parts scrub at the store has to look in the paper book and match up the picture of the one you need.

Just bought one a few weeks ago - Standard Ignition (brand name) part# SLS34 They've gone up Bagga - this one was $11 and change.

Good to hear you got your brake lite ghost solved ridemywg, but unless it's been rewired, the tail light should come on whenever the headlight is on.

Actually the taillite didn't work until I changed the brake switch and even then not until I got the brake bled out.
