Default Primary case '98 softail **question**

What's up fellas?? Recently moved my homebuilt S+S Shovelhead rigid and got a low mileage '98 Springer Softail. Cadallaic Style compared to a big tire rigid..my a$$ thanks me...Doing the general service and adding parts I've acquired so far. Finished up with a thorough wash/polish. My primary drive has a small leak...The problem with that...it's leaking dead in the middle on top..I had noticed it before and tightened the bolts..Given the location...the gasket is clearly visible and looks fine, I suspected maybe the vent was plugged and causing a pressure build-up inside the case. Futher inspection revealed a drop of silicone on the back side of the inner primary...looks to me like it's a makeshift plug. It's dead in the middle on the backside of the inner primary cover..I'm suspecting someone may have removed the vent line and plugged the hole. I don't have a manual...YET...Can someone post up?? All info is greatly appreaciated...Anyone know where an exploded view is on-line?? It's good and warm here in the Southland..Ride safe and have fun..El Dee

Behind the clutch pressure plate there is a "bullet" with a concave end that mates with the clutch release push rod and the other end is slightly convex that pushes against the pressure plate. That extension (bullet) has a flat ground on it to let it breathe thru the transmission shaft using the transmission vent. No actual vent on the primary housing(s) at all.

I wonder if someone dropped the inner primary & chipped the case. It's aluminum. It would be an easy fix once the inner is removed.

Default The evel one

The silicone is where I would approximate the chain adjuster to be. Looks to be doing the leaking when parked. This is why I suspected a vent issue. Like I said it's dead on top in the middle. Mounting surfaces and gasket appear good.
