Only 500 miles after last adjustment. For those who have adjustable pushrods, does this happen often? Heard a tick that got worse real fast and then, 1 cylinder! front exhaust PR, any chance I damaged the valve?
I'm sure the other guys will chime in with much more experience. But I can tell you that I've never had it happen. I'm dealing with a tick from somewhere, but its not a loose pushrod. In fact, the only issue I've had with pushrods, was the tip of a Rev Tech cracking. That was strike two on Chinese made junk for my bike. Never again.. Might be a good idea to say what rod's you've got. Might make a difference in the advice..
One of two things probably happened, first the locknuts were not tight enough or you turned the locknuts in the wrong direction. This happens a lot, I've had several customers stop in after "adjusting" their valves and they started making noise shortly there after, so if this is the case don't feel bad. You probably did not hurt the valves, however if they were loose enough for long enough you could have hurt the end of the pushrods or rockers. Hope this helps.
Well, they are Revtech adjustables, but the loose one doesn't seem damaged at all. It could be that when I adjusted them last, I may have forgotten the final tightening on that one. I will check them all now. Very scary to have all that noise and a sudden loss of power. I don't suppose locktite would be a good idea on these?
This is what You are waiting for with those RewTechs....Replace before they broke...
Avoid Rev Wreck at all costs....you get what you pay for, as clearly illustrated by the photo. As HGM's post stated, chinese junk, as you can plainly see. (actually Korean)
I run V-Thunder Fast Times adjustables (chromoly). As is the rest of Comp Cams products, they are rock solid.
<SNIP> I'm dealing with a tick from somewhere, but its not a loose pushrod. <SNIP>
I had a tick that I couldn't find until I put new tires on and inspected the front wheel bearings. I thought the tick was coming from the front head. Noticed a slight burn on the wheel bearing race. Replaced the bearings, of course, and the tick disappeared.
