Default flhs front nacel

I am replacing my faring with a flhs nacel, lightbar, and windshield. had to order windshield from hd dealer.I put the nacel on and notice a big gap between it and the lightbar bracket and I'm thinking what's up with that. are there a spacer that goes between them? where does the windshield fit in. wish I had a picture of how it all fit together. maybe I need a bolt kit with everything I need. are there anyone with a flhs that can shine some light on this? thanks

Stop in at your local dealer and take a peek at the appropriate parts book.

There is a spacer on each of the four bolts, about 1/4" thick.

I'm 600 miles from my 93 FLHS right now, but I've got my laptop. Here's a pic of the right side:

There are four, 'Belleville' washers that hold the windshield frame on in addition to the sockethead machine screws.

thanks for the picture. I can tell alot by it. I order the complete windshield kit from dealer. I didn't think to ask, but I hope the mounting bracket is included in the kit. does anyone know if it is? I order the 4 spacer through jp cycles.

If it's a complete windshield kit, I would think it would include the brackets, too. They might be dificult to find anywhere else... You can probably get the spacer washers from J&P or somewhere - or just stack up two or three SS washers to fill the gap.

Yes, the nacelle goes on the inside next to the instrument pod housing, then the spacers, then the brackets attached to the forks, and the bolts go through everything. On my bike, there is also a little clutch cable bracket that goes on the top bolt on the left fork, hanging out on the rear side of the bolt ( I tried reversing it, but my clutch would snag on the lower bolts when I turned left, and would then prevent me from being able to turn right... very dangerous! I fixed that in a hurry!) Then, the windshield brackets mount on the outside of the brackets that are attached to the forks. I also have those long triangular chrome wind deflectors on Bertha's forks that you can see in my sig pic. The mounts for those are sandwiched in between the nacelle and the windshield fork brackets... lotta layers of metal on her forks!

I wish I had known you were ordering a windshield. You won't care about this now, but maybe someone else will. Bertha's original stock Lexan (as in "not polishable") windshield was all chipped and scratched up after 15 years, and it was very difficult to see through in when riding into the sun. So, I looked around last year on the net for FLHS windshields, but had a hard time finding one. I finally found one at Cee Bailey, an aircraft windshield manufacturer. So I bought a custom-made aircraft-grade Lucite one from them for $160.

It got it in a light smoke color, and 2" wider than stock so it comes out further on the sides. You can order them stock, or 2" or 4" over wide or shorter or taller than stock, in any combination. I love the windshield - I think it looks great, and it's crystal clear. That's it my my sig pic.

Good luck!

thanks for all the advice. I wish I had known about cee bailey windshield before I had order one from the dealer. I did however need everything. I seen some windshield without the hardware on the net. did the cee bailey windshield come with the hardware? also, what kind of brake rotor do you have on the front of your bike grbrown? was it a direct fit? been looking to improve my braking.

No... it was only the lucite windshield itself. But as I already had the hardware, it wasn't an issue for me like it is with you.

Graham - yeah, Cee Bailey are real pros... they could probably make a windshield for just about anything, given dimensions. I love the windshield... it has just enough smoke to look good, but not enough to make it too dark to ride at night safely. And I like that it's so BIG...
