Another electrical issue
Went on a hundred mile run two days ago.Stopped to get gas, went to restart the bike, nothing but clicking. Thought maybe it was heat related due to the temps being in the upper ninties but still nothing after letting the bike sit for about a half hour. A guy at the gas station had jumper cables,I put the cables on and it started right up. The bike ran great all the way home, but my turn signals and horn don't work, and the headlight is dim. The turn signal bulbs are dim also. Went I got home I tried starting the bike after about an hour, would'nt start again. The battery is fairly new and is fully charged. I checked all the connections, and all were tight. Also checked the fuses and they were ok. Could it be the voltage regulator or circut breaker?
Sounds like the stator or regulator, put a voltmeter across the battery and rev it up and you should get above 13 volts and 12 on idle. I don't have my manual in the house right now but to check the stator you have to check the amps across the stator pins but like I said I don't have book here and I gotta leave for nite shift. For stator you can also check for any broken wires by putting ohmeter probes across pins as well as pin to ground on frame and I don't think there should be continuity. Voltmeter across battery is a very good place to start with though.
