Certainly is! I have corresponded with JR off-line and look forward to receiving them.

I haven't heard of them. Are they a Harley part, or aftermarket? I have several of the crushable variety lying around in reserve!

John,

It has actually been an issue since the bike was new. My S&S engine came with their wretched IST ignition, which has a knock sensor intended to protect the engine against such things as poor gas. Unfortunately when that left pipe takes a 'rest' on the primary, it seems to set off the darned sensor, which kicks in protective measures in the electronics. So the bike does not always run as smooth or strong as it should.

No matter how hard I try I cannot get the pipe more than about 1/16" away from the primary (strictly speaking it is the heat-shield that is closest) and I suspect that gap (after trimming the heat-shield) is not enough to allow for the shaking that occurs when starting up or during normal running. So for the time being I am trying to solve the problem without replacing that pipe.

This engine has never run very smoothly, so it is a needle in my side that I also have this extra problem which adds to the vibration! I am happy to try simple things like these serated nuts (and copper gaskets?) to try to solve it. It's frustrating that these things are so close and like each other so much they can't bear to be parted!

If I can't improve things this way the next step is to get a custom pipe made with increased clearance. I really like the simplicity of my true duals and reckon it is a perfectly good solution, so it is a shame it is proving troublesome.

I see S&S has replaced my 107 with a 111 inch touring engine.

The trip was actually very smooth, from the riding point of view! See my Suspension THUMP thread.

PS, that photo was of a Sportster mount (year/mounting position unknown) but aftermarket offers the same in a number of different lengths and sizes
Managed to miss this at the time you posted. We call them footboards in English! We are tending to lose such things as 'pillion' from our lexicon, thanks in small part to the internet. The round things commonly known as footrests on both sides of the Atlantic also get nicknamed 'pegs' here.

While it may not make you chaps twinge, calling a pillion seat a fanny pad over here can turn cheeks red in embarassment!

That's OK...

I had my Triumph Shop Manual out the other day trying to learn to speak English again Yeah, we call them pegs too and have a few really disgusting names for a tiny passenger seat.

My breather filter is clogged so I'm off to salvage for a copious supply of paraffin for purpose of decontamination

Graham - here's a link to the aftermarket solid copper exhaust gaskets I use. They are great because being solid, they won't compress, which might help your situation. They also eliminate the gasket compressing into the exhaust ports and interfering with the exhaust gas flow. You might be able to get some from a U.K. supplier... otherwise the cross-pond shipping will likely cost you more than the product price!

thank you,

JR,

Nuts just arrived in the post, so many thanks. I am tinkering on the bike at the moment, so it may be a little while before I get to try it out with the new nuts, to see if the left pipe stays put.

Me too! That's pretty amazing product support that surely I haven't seen very often. Makes me wish I was still running the stock exhaust, so I could go out and buy a Samson system.... I'll remember this when the time comes!
