I have a 96 EGC and having a similiar problem but happens only when I use the front brake. The bike is in the dealer for some clutch problems and they said they would check it out. The dealer checked the front mount and they said it was loose. So I might go in and replace the mounts once I get it back.
Im only an "expert" at what problems I have found and repaired on my bike.
My front n/side Brake Caliper had the 2 large "Allen" Bolts, which fit the Caliper on to its bracket, stuck on with Araldite/Epoxy resin,by the last/previous owner.. The threads on the Bracket had become "bare" and rather than re-thread(tap) a new thread...this is what he had done.
I suppose the point is this....before re-newing Engine Mounts or anything else
to cure Front Brake vibration,I would suggest CHECKING ALL Caliper Bolts AND brake pads making sure they are all ok and pads evenly worn. Check also that Caliper Pistons are not "sticking" and operate freely (try cleaning & "Copper" grease them . It is probably an idea to remove ALL Caliper Bolts one by one,"wire brush" them,a small touch of appropriate "Loctite" and Torque them to the Factory spec. Also worth getting Head Stock checked for "play" as the bearings might need replaced. These remedies MIGHT be more likely to cure vibration problems with front brake than new Engine Mounts. Wonder whar others think!!
Bungo.
Well, got the bike back from the dealer. It turns out the clutch spring plate separated and the rivets damaged some disks and ran a groove into the clutch basket. Now when I use the front brakes and vibration is not as bad as it was. I still plan on checking the rotors up front to make sure they are ok. But I have to also replace the Y pipe, big crack in it.
They all crack there. Your engine moves but your exhaust is bolted to the frame by your right boot. Take it to a welder & get it re enforced! I welded mine & no cracks for 30,000 miles!
Two motorcycles ago huh?
Did you fix it with the gas cap method?
Take off the gas cap and put a new motorcycle under it re-install gas cap!!!!
As a matter of fact, I did. The problem was the crappy motor mount design that was allowing the motor and starter to bang against the frame. It was enough to make be want another bike, even after I fixed it. So yeah, I fixed it with a whole 'nutter bike! HA!
