Oh, HELL NO! The EV13 is for big fat heavy baggers like Bertha! For your Fat Boy, you would be much better off with at least an EV-27 or EVL-3010, if not an EV-46 or EVL-3020! They are all bolt-in cams, and are much better suited for your Fat Boy!

You'll need a shim for your new cam. If you're lucky, as I was, you can use the "standard" .050" one... but you'll need to measure your current cam and the new cam and compute the difference to determine the correct cam shim thickness. Lots of help available from the smart guys here!

I'm confused now. Why the EV-27 or EV-46? The reading that I was doing said that the EV-13 would give more mid and top range and would keep the engine cooler.

It moves the power band up a little which would work for your Fatboy. If you had a big heavy bagger you would probably want the power a little lower in the RPM range. When you make power you make heat, ergo more power, more heat!!!

EV13 is mostly adding low end grunt But does not add much at the top end (5500) which is why they recommend for baggers or heavily loaded bikes. EV27 gives you more mid range and a bit more top end range (6000, or so they say). It really depends on the kind of riding you do. I opted for the EV27 because I do more commuting and day tripping than touring with a heavy load. Believe me that the added mid range power is definitely noticable! It's really up to you. I think that mp has an EV13 in his FXR that he likes.

Yeah - it does depend on your riding style. If you like to lug the motor and not have to downshift much going up hills, then you might like the EV-13 better. But on a Fat Boy I'd still consider an EV-27, or the V-Thunder EVL-3010 that I have on Bertha. Those cams are a good midrange choice, and you're not lugging 900 lbs around all the time like I do.

The EV-46 and EVL-3020 move the main powerband up even higher - like past 3500 RPM all the way to redline - so they might not fit your riding style so well...

Yep; I think when I change mine in my 99 FXSTC, I will go with the EV 13 also, as I rarely get up over 3,000 rpm anyway, and like the power down low where I use it most of the time. MP says the power comes in right off idle, bike runs cooler, and gas mileage is the same or better. Everything we do to these things is a compromise of some sort.

Now you have me thinking, Jim. The EVL-3010 in Bertha doesn't really come on strong until about 3000 RPM, and I've had to dial the advance way back to keep her from pinging under 3000 RPM - which means I am downshifting a lot.

Maybe I should get an EV-13 for her and see how that runs... I'd like better power off idle.

NGH, you better be careful how much "playing" you do with Bertha, the wifey may get a mite jealous!

Well, you might have a point there, RK. Bertha has kind of become my mistress of sorts... But my wife brought it all on herself, by giving me Bertha for my 50th birthday three and 1/2 years ago!

Bertha has a great rear end, but my wife takes the Top End hands down! Or hands on... or something...
