So i come home on Friday after a hard day at work and the wife says, your son has something he wants to show you...so we (the wife my son and I) go out to the garage where they show me the bike, with 5 fresh dents in the front fender.
My son says "sow-erry daddy, don be mad". I guess in a fit he grab a hammer and pounded on the fender...i was starting to think "what the hell", cause my son loves the bike...but what can I do, the dents are already there, (my bike, a 1998 Stock RG with only 8000miles on it)
Oh, before you say anything about me whipping my son's *** for this...he is only two...so it was kinda funny seeing him so upset...in an expensive way (now i have to find a RG front fender in vivid black with gold pinstripe)
I can attest, growing up with a dangerous bad temper that you best get on top of that young-un now. At 2 picking up a hammer to do damage 'cause he was mad would concern me as a father. Jus sayin'. Good luck on the body work.
No, Maybe he is jealous of the bike. A good body shop can match your paint perfect. So depending how deep the dents are fill in or a new fender. I replaced my back fender on my 87. Bought a primed one from HD and had it painted. If I remember it was 150 for the paint. this was about 6 years ago. I not telling you how to handle your son but as said you better get to the bottom of this. Good luck.
If the dents are not touching the pin stripe, you can repair & repaint the area, than clear coat the whole fender. I re painted mine last year & it looks awesome!
Look for a fender on ebay the fender should be inter-changable with all the touring models probably to 06, find a black on like yours.
Your bike is the one I want, not ready yet but a 98 RG is on my wish list.
Get a new fender. Save the old one and box it up. Hide it in the attic or wherever and forget about it. Someday far into the future pull it out at a family gathering and have a good laugh.
