need help , went for a ride the other day then stop for a 15 min. break try kick start bike it took an 1 hr before it started. its been doing this for the past 2 months any suggestion
Sure sounds like the ign. module to me, but could be something else also. The reason I say that is I had the same problem with my 84 Iron Head Sporty. ( Although no kick start ) I could hit the starter and it would turn over fine, but would not fire a lick. Turn off the ign., and back on, and it would fire right up. I checked it with a timing light, and when it would not fire there was no spark. If the timing light flashed, it would fire right up. I replaced the ign. module with points and condenser. No more problems, and the bike actually ran better.
Yep, when you are having a problem like that I always check two things first: Fuel and spark. If you have those two then things get tougher, but usually, one of them is the issue. If you pull a plug you can usually determine if you are getting fuel - it will be wet a little and you can smell the gas. Course you might have flooded it too. Pull a plug wire and stick a screwdriver in there and have a friend hold it next to metal while you kick - see if you have good spark. Those are the two quickest tests I know of
ive been having to to kick started cause starter wont turn engine in thinking its the selonoid it just clicks
There are lots of "dreaded click" and starter threads here. Do a forum search on "click", "dreaded click", or "starter" and you'll come up with a lot of good threads to look at.

But if it is set up right it should start using the kick. I have a buddy with an old shovel and it starts on the kick first or second try. I'd still question fuel and spark.
If the ignition components are all original, I'd replace all I could afford to. They're soon to go bad anyway. But I'd guess the coil is weak? Good luck.
still got question on which timing light to use cause manual calls out rpm and crap . just want to know if you guys ever use that to set timing on evo ?
thanks
I use timing lights to set Evos up, its easy, you just rev it until the mark stops advancing through the hole and then you know its at full advance....buy the plastic inspection plug though...otherwise it gets messy!
