Default My aching legs...

Had a real in-depth thread months ago about getting an Ultra. I got a lot of posts and great info, thanks again! I've ridden a few for sale and leaning towards a '97 or '98. Problem is, at 6'4", I feel cramped as heck. My Heritage is rigged with a LePera Bare Bones seat, extended shifter, and brake lever. I hold onto 8" mini apes. I don't do highway pegs and choose to rest my boots on the front edge of the footboards. I'm very comfortable but this is strickly a solo bike. With the better half wanting to ride, I want to add an Ultra to the stable but don't see a way of getting more leg room. What do you guys think??

Raising the seat height might help but I don't know how much. Longer shocks may help a little but I wouldn't hazard a guess as to how much because I'm vertically challenged at 5'9" and horizontally challenged at.....well, we won't go into that! I have heard of floorboard extensions but know nothing about what they actually extend.

I'm only 6' but I'd reccomend a seat that puts you farther back than the stock seat, a set of handle bars like wild ones, etc that place your arms higher than stock and a set of adjustable highway pegs to get your legs kicked out, also the make floorboard kits that can move the boards out and forward to keep your legs from being cramped.

Truly, the floorboard extensions will do the trick. I'm not talking a limo ride but a more natural and "not so cramped" postion. I like the Badlander seat for being able to move back on the seat a little better as well.
Good luck.

I'll vouch for the HG Floorboard Extensions. I'm only 5'9" - but I have them on Bertha and they make a big difference! Much more comfortable having your feet 1" further out on each side.

I also have an extended rear brake pedal - which I would recommend for any rider as tall as me or taller. Gives you back about 2" of the front of your right floorboard by moving the brake pedal forward. Nice! Had a heck of a time finding one for a pre-97 FLHT - but if you get a '97 or '98 you wouldn't have that problem..

6'4" tall with 36" inseam, 195# riding a 98 Ultra checking in. I used to ride a Heritage solo until the wife got back into riding.

I cut my stock seat back so I could sit farther back. Still leaves me low in the saddle, might add about an inch of padding to get me up like in a tall boy seat.
I use Kuryakan Switchblade pegs. I can place my toe on the part that swings back or I can use the regular part of the peg to really stretch out. Pegs are mounted low so they are pretty even with the floorboards.
I also have installed floorboard extentions.
I also have an extended rear brake pedal.
I can ride 500 - 600 miles no problem because I an move my feet/legs around a lot.

Now I gotta make some "freeway peg" for the wife (5'11" with 39" inseam). That is going to be the fun part.

97 Roadking, 6'3" and 2 donuts shy of 280. HD tallboy seat, extended brake and shifter levers with no heal shifter, legs are slightly vertical at the hips and liveable but not perfect. The misses is a lttle crampt with me moved back and the HD detachable backrest leans slightly forward, I can install my detachable tourpack and plenty of room and less of a whining sound from the rear on long trips.

I'm not a ironman rider by no means but 3 hours riding time is obtainable with the setup I have but need to hook my legs over the front of the flloorboards at times

Cool Perfect solution!

Dude... if ur planning on buying a new bike to ride with ur "better half" (the better half should be the bike lol) why not just buy her a bike to ride with u and avoid all the troubles of setting up a new bike for u? unless... it's ur itch that u wanna scratch with the new bike...

I am also 6'4" tall and have a Road King..My standard riding position is with the back of my boots up and over the highway pegs on the engine guard...

6'5"
36" inseam

'98 FLTRI, much more room than the barn-door fairing FLH
Corbin solo, 1" down, 1 1/2" back
Soos 1/2" out floorboard spacers
Bubba's Brake 1 1/2" forward floorboards
IndyCustomBikes 1 1/2" forward floorboard brackets
Bubba's Brake extended brake lever
Bubba's Brake extended shifter lever, no rear lever
Highway pegs mounted as low on the crashbar as possible
10" Monkey Bars

I am very comfortable, regularly do 400-800 mile days, as many leg/foot positions as the Kama Sutra
